The food memory you shared made me tear up! I love this prompt.

My fondest food memory is the brisket my in-laws brought me when we got home from the hospital with my son. I specifically remember my father-in-law preparing a sandwich for me on challah. Nursing made me ravenously hungry, and I firmly believe sandwiches and salads taste better when someone else makes them. It was such a nice, helpful thing. A year later, they brought brisket to my son's first birthday party!

i love the food memory you shared! my late step dad loved korean barbecue and would always unabashedly taste and savor things. think: close his eyes when he’d taste something and “mmmm” with utter satisfaction. when he passed a couple of years ago, my brother and i brought his ashes with us to eat korean barbecue with him one last time. miss him every day.

One of my favorite weird food memories was when a friend and I did a tour of the National Parks in Utah, and every times we'd make it to a major lookout or peak we'd eat our sandwiches and without fail each of the sandwiches were positively... disgusting. Like, we lost *all* sandwich-making mojo? They'd be sad and soggy or way too salty. To the point where all our Instagram captions were a variation of how great the views and how terrible the sandwiches were. Core memory. Love.

This message is for Jannelle and anyone interested in babywearing! I absolutely love seeing babies being worn (so much so that I’m in training to be a baby wearing consultant and educator) and sing their praises to basically everyone! It’s such a lovely practice 💛

I’m so, so sorry to be that person but I’d like to very gently point out that carrying a baby forward facing can actually be quite dangerous, especially when the baby isn’t able to sit up independently. Positional asphyxia and unsafe hip positions are two major concerns. The International Hip Dysplasia Institute which deems products “hip-healthy” recommends inward-facing carrying for until at least six months to promote the best hip development. The Omni’s own instructions say “You can start wearing your baby facing out once your baby demonstrates strong head and neck control, with his chin above the carrier body, and weighs 14 lbs minimum (6.4 kg). This is usually around 5 months.”

Bethany - I improvised the lasagne for this dinner and haven't written the recipe yet. But here's a summer version that will be great when tomatoes start looking juicy https://claredeboer.substack.com/p/hello-from-my-island

My godmother taught me how to make mashed potatoes years ago. She always made the best ones, so creamy and whipped you could hardly believe what you were tasting. Her secret? Two whole sticks of butter! I was shocked when I found out! But after she taught me, I couldn't stray from the recipe. I've always made mashed potatoes this way, and it's the only thing my (very talented at cooking) husband admits I am better at making than he is. Everyone who has had them raves about them.

My godmother died earlier this year at the magnificent age of 93. But every time I make mashed potatoes and throw two sticks in the pot, I think of her!

Joanna, the memory you shared about your Grandmother reminded me of an essay I heard on This American Life: https://www.thisamericanlife.org/823/the-question-trap/act-three-11

I feel like you beautifully captured what the author is trying to communicate, that when someone you love has memory loss, it's our job to honor and remember who they are to us as well as who we are to them. Their existence and the time we have with them is still valuable after they've lost track of who we are to them.

I was so moved that she liked me, regardless. after going out on the boat, she told me, "it was lovely sitting next to you on the boat today." and I was so touched because I hadn't been "grandfathered in," aka she didn't HAVE to love me as her granddaughter. but she still did! sobbbbbbb

Those Trader Joe’s ice cream cookie sandwiches are a household favorite. One time I brought them in a small cooler at school pick up and the kids BEAMED at the surprise.
