Hi Jo and team! Just wanted to say that I am loving the newsletter, and am also so impressed by how the quality of CoJ is being maintained as you launch this new venture. What a lovely way to provide both free and paid content. Hope you all are getting lots of rest and taking time to celebrate :)
I adore the show Frasier (it's one of my all-time favorites), but Frasier himself was borderline intolerable. Many episodes of him being insufferable beyond belief were saved from being turned off by the supporting cast (Niles forever!), so I can't imagine a reboot without those characters is going to be as enjoyable.
Me too!!! Niles was my mom’s huge crush when we were growing up :) And she always said daphne reminded her of her mom who had grown up in Manchester. Xoxo
I'm a little disappointed about this newsletter format, especially since Jo seems to have a massive network of interesting women with lives beyond what they own, and an even bigger audience to follow her. Shopping lists of stuff ($60 bralettes) to buy can't be the only way to connect with other people.
Oh yes for sure! Thank you for this feedback. Big Salad will feature all different women with all different careers/hobbies/interests/approaches, etc (similar to how we do on Cup of Jo). This issue was about Becky, who writes about fashion and styling in such a conversational, personal way and whose work I’ve always loved. Her expertise lies in finding the best versions of things and scouting little diamonds in the rough. So, this issue skewed toward shopping. Our next issue will be more about pop culture and humor. And then I’ll be chatting with my sister about dating (including some funny horror stories!). In the future, we also have interviews about sex, family, friendship, entertaining, careers, negotiating, moving homes, menopause, different life chapters, gardening (we have a epic before and after), the list goes on. I’m so excited to share and hope you love it.
I found Becky through one of your blog posts and have been subscribed to her newsletter for a few months. It’s CHANGED MY LIFE! When I saw you were featuring her in your substack, I never clicked faster! This one did not disappoint. I love Becky’s relatable tone and how she describes her choices. It just clicks for me. I don’t impulse buy nearly as much as I used to!
Your comment (and the fact she loves Peter Rabbit!) convinced me to finally subscribe to Becky's newsletter. Her style, both writing and fashion wise, is so relatable. I think that I will find it helpful, as well.
I remember another amazing tip she had for children’s gifts — she got her son a real stethoscope and he is obsessed w it. You can get them on Amazon and they’re the same price as toy ones!
welcome to newsletter life!! so funny, I sprung for a pair of dark wash levis 501 '90s this morning (BTW they are on sale 30% off rn for anyone interested) so it was v affirming (slash serendipitous) to see them mentioned here as well.
Love this! And thanks so much for the mention. I love a red lip...it's like instant teeth whitening. Also, the GORGEOUS design of your newsletter has convinced me I need to step up my design game!
Kid expressions are the cutest thing! My sister and I love it so much that a bunch of our children's misspoken words have wormed it's way into our own personal language. For example, we'll say "ganx" in lieu of "thanks" to each other. Of course, today, the originators of these odd bon mots roll their eyes and don't even remember saying them in the first place.
Hi hi! I’m a fan of your content, and congrats on your new site. As a grad student, I have to be conscious of my budget. The content posted so far feels so similar to CoJ. Do you have any plans where we can opt-in to your personal posts for a lower rate? It can be a bit overwhelming to get so many product recs on a Friday. Thanks x

Oh my gosh, imagine having a mom like Daphne! I feel like that would be so fun.
It’s NOTHING without Niles!!!

Oh I loveeee this tip! My 4yo is obsessed with doctor everything and I can just see her face getting a *real* stethoscope 🥰
Becky’s fantastic fashion newsletter just became an instant follow...where has she been all my adult life?!?!
And by “where has she been,” I obviously mean where have *I* been hahahahaha. Living under a rock, apparently
woohoo! my two favorite writers colliding in the best way. thank you joanna, and thank you, becky!
Thank you Joanna!! I’m truly so worried about this reboot!!!!! (P.s. I DM’d you on Instagram cuz I can’t find your email for some reason 🐬)
Really loving this newsletter! Also, I think I’m restarting Frasier. Such a solid show :)

anyone know where those adorable pink socks are from (under Asking For a Friend)??
I’ll ask Becky!
They're Maria La Rosa! :)
I can vouch for the quality and comfort of Maria La Rosa socks. I bought 2 pairs from Alex Mill when they had them and love them.
Oh thank you! I loved them! What a fun way to add a little color and personality to an outfit 🩷

Team Niles. A thousand times, yes.

This one was very shopping heavy because Becky is a fashion editor. Please stay tuned for all different vibes! Xo
How can a barette be 60 Euros?
“I mean it’s one banana, Michael. What could it cost? Ten dollars?” 🙃
